Emails from our neighbors ....

* I like the idea.  I like the design.  I would certainly be a regular user.  Access to the bay without having to throw the kayak up on the roof of my truck would be fantastic.
George Johnson ~ B132nd St
(Bay Block)

* As a resident of Belle Harbor for my entire life I find it very frustrating that we have absolutely no bay access. This is possibly our chance to change all that. Thank you.

Madeline Cowhey ~ B127th St

* ... As a local home owner near the [BHYC] club, the thing to do is rebuild the wall and build a walk ramp [at] the wall and down to a new dock. That will make everybody happy.  William Mallia  ~ B126th St

* I don't kayak or sail but I believe this design with water access in our community will not only improve the quality of life for our families but enhance the beauty of our neighborhood.
 John McCann ~ B129th St
(Bay Block)
* Seems like it could be a win win if done correctly.
Good Luck.
Mary Ellen Olsen ~ B130th
St

* Nice job presenting the situation. Looking forward to seeing some design ideas.

Keith "Bugsy" Goldberg. ~ B134th St.

* It looks very nice. I am sure it would drastically improve the look of that area.

Cliff Shevlin ~ B134 St

* The design looks great.  I like it.  I think it would be beneficial to the neighborhood.

 Sandy Yaeger ~ B128th St

* I think you outlined the issues perfectly. This is a no brainer for the BHYC [to support]. It will increase membership and bring more activity to the [BHYC] club.  Kevin Barrett ~ B130th St

* Belle Harbor needs the Belle Harbor Cove.  As a community surrounded by water, it is our responsibility to take advantage of every opportunity to improve our access to and enjoyment of Jamaica Bay.   We owe it to ourselves and our children.   There are many areas along the bay front in Rockaway that can provide access to the water, and Belle Harbor Cove is a great place to start.

Rick Horan ~ Gateway Bike & Boathouse.

* As a Belle Harbor resident and avid boater I would love to have an area in our immediate neighborhood to  drop off and pick up boating passengers.  I'm always amazed that in a town surrounded by water we have so little access to the bay for launching kayaks or enabling boaters to access the Belle Harbor area.  The Belle Harbor Cove is long overdue and it would be an asset to our area.

Mark Aiken Bay 132 St. (Bay Block)

* As a resident of Belle Harbor and Rockaway for my entire life, I find it very frustrating and somewhat unbelievable that we have absolutely no bay access other than a ramp opposite the a sewage treatment plant that was closed for many years and very poorly maintained with zero appeal for usage.  I love the idea and the design.  I would certainly be a regular user and would look forward to learning how to sail small crafts like a hobby cat, sunfish or just have fun with a kayak.
  Great Job, Great Idea!!
Craig Carey ~B128th St

* Great Idea!  Eddie Carroll

* Being a new resident to the community (2003) and BHYC member, I have wondered why we do not have more access to the wonderful waterway that surrounds us. I feel that this waterway entrance will enhance the community and benefit the members of the yacht club by bringing back the original yacht club with a modern twist. Maybe this yacht club could actually have a boat attached to it where we could have a dinner cruise or boating trip take us directly out from our front doors. I support the venture 100%...
Anthony DiCarlo ~ B 134th (Bay Block)

* Finally ... a capital improvement project for the working middle class. A kayak launch near my home in Rockaway Park would be excellent.  Thank you for your efforts.  RockawayKayaker@gmail.com

*
It looks like a great design ... I hope it gets approved.
Debbie Sluyk ~ B132nd St

* I think providing bay access to the residents of the community is a great idea and I think the [John Haden Design] plans that have been put forward are excellent. I highly support this cause!

Mike O’Neill ~ B127th St.

* My family "supports" this project. Rosemary & Larry McGuire

* I have 2 high-schoolers and 1 college student (on the crew team) and they love the cove idea.  They are not really beach goers and all 3 said, they wish the cove was built 5 years ago so they would have other activities to do besides go to the beach.  I hope the next generation appreciates your organization's efforts.
Dori Williams, Rockaway Park

I love the design... I agree that this project would be an improvement for our Belle Harbor community with absoultely no down side....Let me know how I can help....
Sal Amodeo

* For too long we've been teased by the water's proximity.  True bay access should be available to all who wish to canoe or kayak or sail.  There's no reason to be landlocked any longer!  Kevin Boyle

* I think the idea is excellent. As a lifelong Rockaway resident and long-time member of the BHYC I remember using the Club's dock and barge for storing and sailing our Sunfish around the bay. Considering that much of our prime waterfront property is privately owned by dentist's offices and fast food restaurants this public water access area would be a real breath of fresh air.  Let me know how I can help.
Peter Galvin, MD

*What an outstanding idea! I know it has been in the works for awhile. Instead of driving miles to launch our boats and kayaks this would be a simple and environmental friendly idea. Lets push this to the hilt.  Jaime Resker

* Waterfront access in Rockaway should be a given. You need only look back several generations to see how successful and thriving this community once was; when it had access for boaters, fisherman, sports enthusiasts and lovers of nature. A municipal pier should be part of this plan in order to provide residents and visitors with the necessary quality of life attributes most waterfront neighborhoods around the world takes for granted.
Marina Callaghan

* What a fantastic idea! Anything that promotes non-motorized recreation for our community should be absolutely encouraged and supported. Right now, I travel all the way to Manhattan to kayak - an absurd idea considering we're surrounded by water! Thanks for your vision and drive - I hope this idea goes far!
Cindy Rosin, B. 130th

* I grew up in New Jersey, and was always at the shore. All beach and bay communities have public access to the water. I find it extremely frustrating, that we have absolutely no bay access other than a ramp opposite the a sewage treatment plant. I love the concept and the design. I would certainly be a regular user and look forward to the improvement of the bay wall.
Noreen Barnes B124th St

*
A perfect way to improve access to the bay side of Rockaway and help local businesses.  This will be great for attracting people to The Rockaways to enjoy popular water sports like kayaking, kite boarding and windsurfing. Maybe the bay side will realize the potential that the beach side already has.
Patrick Connolly

* Great idea.  Like many parts of the city the Rockaways are starved for resources.  Thus the under-utilization of its greatest natural resource becomes all the more glaring.  A third generation native of Rockaway Beach I commend you for attempting to right this wrong and look forward to the day when one might kayak from Holland Landing to Belle Harbor Cove.
John Donnelly B 91st St.

* I love it and believe it is long overdue... I live directly across from that unused area and don't even like going there to play catch with my son because of the way it is not taken care of...time to make it useable to the public and create a recreational outlet for the community!
